In early 1966, a group of concerned Christians contacted Rev. J. Harvey Dixon expressing their desire for a prayer time for the City of Salisbury and the surround area. An invitation was extended to Rev. Dixon and his wife, to attend an informal prayer service from home to home for a few Saturday evenings. There were 12 present for the first prayer service. This Prayer fellowship continued from home to home for a number of weeks. the attendance grew in number, creating the need for a larger facility.
On September 3, 1966, this group incorporated adopting the name Faith Community Church of Salisbury, Maryland. They purchased the old sanctuary of Asbury United Methodist Church at 219 North Division Street on September 24, 1966. Their goal was to restore the old church as a desirable place of worship and promote Bible principles throughout the community.
Through the past 40 years, many improvements have been made to this historical 119-year-old sanctuary. This congregation has been extended into the community activities in a very rewarding way promoting many spiritual endeavors and Chaplaincy programs in various areas.
Today, God is still using our pastor and our congregation in a very rewarding way to edify His Kingdom and to extend HIS Canopy of Grace.
THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH!
