A Serving Saint Rather Than A Sitting Symbol

The awesomeness of the church is created by church members who are serving saints rather than sitting symbols.

In recent years, hunters, hobbyists and collectors are prowling through beach houses, duck blinds and auction rooms in search of decoy treasures. Books have been written and decoys have become a lucrative business.

What is a decoy? An enticing imposture, a booby trap, or a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Deception is the name of the game. Decoys tempt, seduce, entice and beguile. In our society, it is easy to see great deceptions of decoy design. Practically all vices in our society are promoted by decoys. The billboard showing a beautiful girl with a glass of beer and the TV shows a kind doctor puffing on a cigarette. There are so many deceptive and elusive symbols which seem to be replacing reality in our lives and sometimes maybe even in our churches. Unless we become anchored in Jesus, there is a danger in these shifting, aimless times with wavering values and diminishing religious commitments. There is a danger of us becoming just a sitting symbol rather than a serving saint.

Walking in the light of God’s grace leads to the fountains of God’s glory. Living mindful of God’s miracle markers leads to the spectacular with God. If we can say ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’, from our hearts it is amazing where God will lead us. We can be the blessed man of Psalm 1.

The serving saint is a wonder of God’s grace and the sitting symbol is a disappointment to everyone including God.

February 17th - Sonshine Club - 11:30 AM

Sonshine Club

Our January Sonshine Club was held Tuesday, January 20th at 11:30 AM. We had 57 in attendance in spite of the snow storm. A special dinner of German meat loaf was served and enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will be February 17th, 2009.

Something to Crow About

A special fun and fellowship promotion started February 1st and will continue through Easter Sunday, April, 12th at our 10:45 A.M. service. We have two teams: the “Go Getters” and “Movers and Shakers”. Captain and co-captain of the “Go Getters” are Mrs. Barbara Ilczuk and Mrs. Barbara Robertson. Captain and co-captain of the “Movers and Shakers” are Mrs. Linda Price and Mrs. Lois Hart.

This offers a real challenge for our regular membership to improve their attendance and, at the same time, introduce new visitors during this time period.

Food For Thought

Dr. Robert Schuler tells about a victim of the holocaust left scratched on the wall a star of David with these words beneath it:

I believe in the sun even when it does not shine... I believe in love even when it is not shown... I believe in God even when He does not speak.”

Someone else has said, “Faith is like the bird that feels the light and sings to greet the dawn while it is still dark.”

Holy Humor

Doctor, speaking with a perspective surgical patient, said “I believe in getting my patients up and around very quickly.... Three hours after the operation, you’ll sit up.... Five hours after the operation, you’ll stand up.... The next day you’ll be walking”.

Patient, thought for a moment and said, “That’s fine, doctor... but can I lay down for the operation?”

Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time.. If you do, you won’t have a leg to stand on.
